Our Methodology
The Riverstone Reading Approach
All Riverstone programmes are built around the practice of reading itself — not listening to explanations of what finance documents mean, but working through actual sample documents in a facilitated setting. This distinction matters. Most founders improve their literacy fastest when they read, pause, question, and re-read with guidance nearby.
Sessions use curated sample excerpts from the kinds of documents that founders in Malaysia routinely encounter: income summaries, monthly review formats, agreement preambles, cost allocation structures. Nothing is invented for the classroom — materials are drawn from realistic working contexts.
Reading-centred
Sessions are built around doing the reading, not being told about it
Realistic materials
Drawn from actual business document contexts, not invented examples
Conversational
Facilitators guide discussion rather than lecture from slides
Regular practice
Longer programmes build a reading habit over weeks and months
Programme 01
Owner-Operator Reading Workshop
RM 720 — Two Days
A two-day workshop for first-time founders and owner-operators introducing the language of business finance literacy. Participants read a simple income summary, work through the vocabulary of personal versus business records, and establish a calm monthly review routine. A printed reading companion is included. The workshop contains no tax, legal, or advisory content.
What you will cover
- Reading a simple income summary — line by line
- Vocabulary for separating personal and business records
- Building a monthly document review habit
- Introduction to common financial document terms
How it runs
Day one: Income summary reading — working through a sample document as a group, pausing on vocabulary, building a shared glossary.
Day two: Records separation and review routines — reading sample record formats, discussing monthly review templates, using the printed companion.
Programme 02
Founder Reading Group
RM 2,540 — Three Months
A three-month rotating reading group where participants meet biweekly with a facilitator to read sample business reports, agreements, and accessible literature on business finance vocabulary. The format is conversational and literacy-focused. The group does not evaluate any specific business or arrangement and contains no advisory content.
What you will cover
- Sample business report formats — reading and discussion
- Agreement vocabulary — understanding standard clauses
- Accessible finance literature for entrepreneurs
- Group discussion on reading challenges and vocabulary
How it runs
Biweekly sessions: Six meetings across three months. Each session covers a different document or text type.
Pre-reading: Participants receive reading material one week before each session to review independently.
Discussion format: Sessions begin with guided reading and move into facilitated vocabulary discussion. No presentations.
Programme 03
Annual Founder Literacy Track
RM 4,720 — Twelve Months
A twelve-month structured literacy track combining monthly themed reading sessions, quarterly book-review meetings, and a printed annual reading companion. Topics rotate through standard report formats, vocabulary in agreements, and reflective reading on entrepreneurship. The programme is educational throughout and does not provide advisory content.
What you will cover
- Standard report formats — twelve monthly themes
- Agreement vocabulary across common document types
- Quarterly entrepreneur reading — curated books and papers
- Printed annual companion covering all twelve themes
How it runs
Monthly sessions: Twelve themed meetings over the year. Each month covers a different reading topic.
Quarterly book reviews: Four longer sessions reviewing a selected entrepreneurship reading.
Printed companion: Distributed at the start of the track. Covers all twelve monthly themes with vocabulary, excerpts, and exercises.
